Limiting Beliefs about Depression & Suicide

Limiting Beliefs about Depression & Suicide

There are few celebrities I will miss as much as Robin Williams.   I was a huge fan of Mork & Mindy, appreciated his comedic and more serious roles, and valued his good –heartedness and compassion.   And with all that he had to offer, he too like many of us suffered from tremendous despair.   The only good thing about his suicide,is that we are learning more about the nature of suicide and depression. But what distresses me is that I keep hearing, “there is no cure”. I believe that you don’t have to live with depression or suicidal thoughts, and this is why. (more…)

Five Simple Mental Reframes for Success

I’ve spent the majority of my life struggling.   I frequently looked around at other classmates or colleagues and wondered why life seemed so much easier for them.   As I gradually began to learn why, I realized one of the key differences of more successful people was a healthier perspective than mine.  Over time, I’ve learned healthier reframes that have more effectively supported my growth and allowed me to view success more realistically.  Here are some of my favorites with words of wisdom from my teachers:

If you find yourself getting sick way too often, its always a good idea to assess to see if you are being exposed to mold.  I find it can underlie unusual levels of fatigue, it can contribute to strange neurological problems, a foggy brain or an inability to concentrate.

What to do When a Debate Gets Toxic

What to do When a Debate Gets Toxic

I admit that I can be very opinionated. I’m passionate about social justice, about treating people, animals and our mother earth compassionately, and I’m not a fan of policies that favor profit over our collective welfare. And my opinions, which I’m not afraid to share, frequently attract others who wish to “debate”.   I say this in quotation marks because I believe we’ve lost understanding of the meaning of debate in this country.   When I was young, I don’t remember politics being this vitriolic. I don’t remember people calling each other names or making personal insults to the degree that we do these days. I say this in quotations because I believe that as soon as the personal attacks begin, the person (or persons) who choose to engage in them are no longer debating. They are arguing.

And why is this distinction important?   (more…)

5 Common Barriers to Productivity

Are you are feeling tired, unmotivated or distracted?

Are you struggling to get things done?

What are your Barriers to Productivity?

Lack of productivity could be a signal of underlying depression, an undiagnosed illness, a nutrient deficiency, insufficient quality sleep, lack of exercise or a bad diet. It could also due to negative belief systems or trapped emotions, feelings of sabotage or other energetic imbalances.   For some, specific jobs or relationships might have been key to our loss of drive.   Lack of productivity could also be a result of negative experiences of our ancestors.   Their reactions, belief systems, emotions, sabotage and more could have been passed down to us epigenetically, leaving us with less power to overcome obstacles put in our path.

Here are some common belief systems and emotional patterns that can get in our way:

When Goal Setting Fails

When Goal Setting Fails

You’ve heard it all before.   To reach your goal, you have to visualize it, create a dream board, you have to think positive thoughts and get excited about it.   But what if  you can visualize your goals, but try as you might,  you just don’t find yourself that motivated to reach your goal?

For as long as I can remember, I had a really hard time being driven by goals.   Don’t get me wrong, I always completed classroom assignments, and in graduate school I wrote research papers, and completed my thesis, but what motivated me was not having a paper or completed thesis.  For me,  I was driven by something entirely different: (more…)
