9 Hidden Reasons Why We Can’t Focus
Are you struggling to focus?
Are you having trouble getting things done?
Is it getting in the way of your career or ability to earn money?
Are you worried that you might lose clients, or get fired from your job?
I used to have the hardest time concentrating on my work! I would do everything I could to tune out external distractions, I’d get exercise and enough sleep, and still my work was slow moving, and I’d need frequent breaks. Because I wasn’t very productive during my work days, I’d try to work longer hours to make up for it. I was caught in an endless cycle of workaholism, and it led to burnout and fatigue and depression.
These days, my mind is usually clear, and on the few days when I’m having trouble focusing, I address the underlying problems and that is enough to get my brain working at its best.
How have I gotten this far?
I found 9 underlying reasons that were getting in the way:
Because my brain was driven to distraction, I’ve always paid attention to the variables that have affected my ability to focus:
- External noise: Because I find talking distracting, I do my most brain intensive work at home. When I worked in an open office, I was wear ear-phones that shut out sounds from the environment, and listen to calming music.
- Sleep: If I have enough sleep, I am usually able to concentrate. If I’m getting tired, taking a 10-20 min power nap can do wonders to recharge my brain. If my nap is longer, my brain can feel sluggish and take awhile to recover.
- My work schedule: I pay attention to my best work hours. I am most productive in the morning and early evening, and so I try to do my hardest work then. Admittedly, I don’t find this easy to do. It is also important to take regular breaks away from your desk. Check out The Science of Taking Breaks.
- Exercise: I exercise every morning before I start my day. My concentration is best for about 2 hours afterwards. Without exercise, my body and brain feel restless throughout the day.
- Being grounded: Our bodies and brains resonate at Schuman’s frequencies which are produced by the magnetic field. But since Gauss measured it in 1835, the magnetic field has decayed by 10%. Our exposure to it is also decreased with the increase of urbanization, exposure to electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs), and decreased exposure to nature. EMFs introduce other frequencies which are out of harmony with our bodies natural vibrations, causing a loss of electrons and DNA damage to our cells. The downstream effects can be extensive.
I try to get a regular exposure to nature from hiking or running or walking on dirt paths a few times a week. This helps me stay grounded. However to reduce my exposure to EMFs at home, I wear magnetic insoles and a magnetic necklace. My magnetic sleep system ensures that I get high quality sleep every night, which is also essential for optimal concentration. - Minimizing toxins: There are a variety of ways to detox. The most important thing to do is to make sure you have cleared your body of the heavy metals, mercury, fluoride and lead. They are potent neurotoxins that interfere with your ability to learn, remember and concentrate. It is important not only to reduce your exposure, but to detox regularly. Contact me at 1855 ENERJOY if you’d like an easy way to do this.
- Clear pathogens: If I am having a slightly more sluggish day or am feeling less focused, I check my body to see if I’ve caught any bugs. Our body is regularly exposed to viruses, bacteria and other pathogens, and if we are feeling sluggish, this could be an indicator that our immune system has kicked in gear to fight them off.
- Determination to succeed: Many things can interfere with our drive and determination to complete a task. We might be struggling with perfectionisms, fear of success, feeling overwhelmed by the task at hand, we might be uncertain of our direction or we could be lacking passion for what we are doing. These issues almost always stem from your life experiences or your epigenetic experiences. If you are struggling with a determination to succeed, call me at 1855 ENERJOY to schedule a complimentary consultation.
- Mental health: If we are struggling with depression, anxiety, learning disabilities or other mental health conditions, these issues often interfere with our ability to focus. Also if we are unhappy in a relationship or are grieving we (especially women) often have a harder time focusing. Our negative emotions can interfere with our ability to think clearly. If you are struggling with these issues, and want to use holistic strategies to release the underlying causes, call me at 1855 ENERJOY to schedule a complimentary consultation.
If you are struggling to focus, know that you don’t have to live this way! I’ve gone from being frustrated, anxious and depressed about my productivity, to marveling at what I’ve able to accomplish! Releasing the underlying problems now will better help protect you from the downstream effects of stress and aging as well.
Why not be as productive and confident as you can?
